  • Humble suggestions for finding an internship

    One of the issues that I am contacted about frequently has to do with internship placement. While I will not pretend to be an expert on internship placements, I have been an intern myself for seven different programs and have interviewed and supervised many interns over the years. As a Clinical Director I am currently in charge of interns at our not for profit as well. What follows are some humble suggestions. I hope you find them useful.

  • I remember Dr. Lenny

    I first met Dr. Lenny when I was interviewing for an inpatient position many years ago and he was part of the the small panel that interviewed me. He was a stickler for privacy even before HIPAA was the law of the land and he seemed to enjoy grilling me on confidentiality and all things related to substance abuse.

  • Who needs alternative education programs?

    Article: Not long ago I was at an event where folks were speaking about alternative education programs. One gentleman had some less than kind things to say about the type of kid who needs such programming. He described a trouble kid who dabbles with or is addicted to drugs, gets into trouble and is known to the police.

    Sometimes it seems that no matter the clinician, no matter the age and no matter the setting, they are in the process of some kind of transition. The transition can be personal or professional, but it seems that as a group of folks, we are never or at least seldom happy with simply sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the fruit of our hard work and good deeds
