    I have a slogan that has been helpful to me, my family, my clients, and, especially, to my students and interns. The slogan is a practical adaptation of an old proverb, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I think the proverb means that in a difficult situation those who are resilient take initiative. My slogan is, “When the going gets rough, the tough recruit.”

    When I went to graduate school, there was no mention of insurance companies or running a business as a therapist. So, I have taught a course for graduate students at Whitworth University to try to serve the next generation of therapists in more practical ways than I learned in school
