    After just recently reviewing the June 2016 issue of Counseling Today; the article, “Stepping Across the Poverty Line” really resonated with me. I too, work with a disadvantaged population. The article pays special attention to the fact that we as counselors needs to observe and address client’s issues to determine if the client is getting his or her basic needs met as part of the therapeutic process.

  • Learning through Experience

    Well, it has only been about 8 months of clinical residency towards receiving my LPC in the state of Virginia. Once I have accrued all 3400 hours (including 2000 direct contact hours) and provide all of the quarterly evaluations, the Virginia Board of Counseling will review my paperwork and submit approval to take the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).

  • Ways to utilize Clinical Supervision effectively

    I recently have received approval from the Virginia Board of Counseling for an additional clinical supervisor at my current place of employment. I addressed with one of my colleagues some of my concerns and needs from the supervision experience in order to increase my level of knowledge and to receive the necessary support.
