The mission of the American Counseling Association is to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect and human dignity and diversity.

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number aggressive policing incidents against people of color in this country. Several high profile incidents across the country have been depicted by the national media. Most of these incidents have been extremely graphic and difficult to watch, and ultimately resulting in seemingly unwarranted uses of force.

The counseling profession is built on the concept of advocacy. When you think about it, that's pretty much what we do as counselors, build relationships and advocate for our clients.

Recently, the United States of America has experienced an alarming increase in police brutality against people of color, especially African American males. There have been numerous incidents of unarmed African American males being killed by law enforcement officers across the nation.
