Valued at about $50 billion, it’s undisputed that Uber’s business was a great idea. Except, they weren’t the first to think of it. Ever hear of Taxi Magic? It did basically the same thing as Uber, but they didn’t execute as well. Uber didn’t win just because it was a genius idea. It won on effective execution.

When I was in high school, I remember getting that military recruitment phone call. As he attempted to convince me that joining the military would be a positive decisions for my future, I kept thinking in my head “Who really wants to go to war for a career?” More than a little rudely, I ended that phone call, not realizing that one day I would develop a passion to work with those who dream of going to war.

I hesitate to turn on the news or check my news report updates on my phone because it feels like weekly there is some type of heavy loss that relates to death. Part of my own difficulty with reading news like this is thinking of the innocent lives that were abruptly taken.

I attended the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) conference in Orlando on August 2 – 3, 2018. I met some wonderful colleagues who were doing great work in their communities, and my presentation on “Working with the Mother-Daughter Relationship” was well attended and sparked lively discussion.
