As a new professional, how do you develop a network of colleagues within the field of counseling? You may want to consider former students in your cohort or professors that you have developed relationships with while in school. I personally have tried to cultivate relationships with former professors outside of the classroom. This has proven very beneficial for me as a new professional within the field of counseling. I have utilized the expertise of those seasoned professors to provide support and assistance to help me in my professional journey.

Joanne Thomas is a Resident in Counseling, completing clinical residency to become a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. She has discovered her passion of working with youth and provides both individual and family therapy and concurrently is completing coursework to obtain her credential as a Registered Play Therapist.
